Abbott Northwestern Internal Medicine Faculty Journal Club

Seven journals of particular importance to general internists were selected for weekly review by an "editorial board" consisting of the program leaders and the chief residents. In addition, ACP Journal Club selections in each issue of the Annals of Internal Medicine are also reviewed.

New England Journal of Medicine
Journal of the American Medical Association
Annals of Internal Medicine
The Lancet
British Medical Journal
Archives of Internal Medicine
American Journal of Medicine
ACP Journal Club

Several other high-impact journals (e.g. Circulation) are routinely reviewed by faculty members and important articles from these journals are brought to the group.

The table of contents of each new issue is reviewed by the editorial board. Original research articles of potential importance are selected for more careful review and a decision to present the study is made by the group the next week. Articles are presented formally to the faculty group within 3 weeks of their publication. The formal presentations are posted on the web site within one week of the formal presentation.
